At Atlantic Aircraft we spend our days helping pilots buy and sell aircraft. Along the way we answer the same questions again and again: what should I look for in the logbooks? What will it really cost to run? How do I price my aircraft? We have started writing those answers down, and our new Guides section is the result.
What you will find
The guides are organised into six sections, each focused on a stage of aircraft ownership:
- Buying — from setting a budget to pre-purchase inspections and completing the sale.
- Selling — preparing, pricing and presenting your aircraft.
- Ownership and running costs — budgeting, groups and where to keep your aircraft.
- Aircraft type guides — what to look for in popular types, starting with the Piper PA-28.
- Training and licences — licence options, hour building and converting between aircraft types.
- News and market updates — developments that matter to owners and buyers.

Why we are writing them
Buying or selling an aircraft is a big decision, and good information is surprisingly hard to find in one place. Much of what is online is written for the US market, where rules, costs and the aircraft on offer are different. Our guides are written for UK pilots and owners, in plain English, and focus on the practical questions that affect decisions and value.
Linked to real aircraft
Each guide links to relevant aircraft currently for sale on the Hangar, and each aircraft listing links back to the guides that matter for it. If you are reading about the PA-28, you will see the PA-28s we have available; if you are looking at a microlight, you will find our microlight guide alongside it.
Where to start
If you are new to aircraft ownership, start with our guide to buying a used light aircraft, then read about the real cost of owning one so the budget holds no surprises. Owners thinking about moving on should begin with preparing an aircraft for sale, which covers the paperwork and presentation that make the biggest difference to how quickly an aircraft sells. Pilots still choosing a licence will find a plain comparison in PPL vs LAPL.
Tell us what you want to read
We will keep adding guides and updating them as rules and the market change. If there is a question you would like us to answer, or a type you would like us to cover, get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
